The initial diagnosis really was hard for me, because with retirement, I wanted to travel. I wanted to backpack.

All these activities I wanted to do that I didn't have time to do when I was working all the time.

I really felt that someone took them away from me.

    My name's Christina. I'm 71 years old.

I found out I had osteoporosis in June of 2022.

I was honestly pretty shocked because I really felt I was doing all the the things I should have been doing.

In 2022, I was walking my dogs. They saw a rabbit, pulled me down, and I broke my arm.

When I got my x-ray, my orthopedic doctor looked at it and said, ‘Oh, I think there is something going on with some bone thinning.’ And recommended I get a bone density scan.

And that is when I found out that I had osteoporosis.

I was really scared. I didn’t want to do things because I was worried I might hurt myself.

And so, the first thing I did was start doing some research.

I looked at the pros and cons of all the different things that were out there. Because I was pretty focused on, ‘Okay, what am I going to do? How am I going to do it? I want to get better. I want my bones strong. I want to get back to living my life.’

So, after having done my research, I realized that EVENITY was what I wanted for my treatment because it builds bone. So, when I went to my doctor to talk to him about what treatment options I had I was ready to say EVENITY is what I wanted. But he had already looked at my chart, and beaten me to the punch and said, ‘EVENITY is what I recommend.’ And I was very, very happy.

So for me, treatment with EVENITY was really easy. I was able to schedule the appointments months in advance, so I knew exactly when I was going to have them I would go in, get my two shots and out the door I went. I didn’t have to think about remembering a pill or anything else.

    It was easy.

It was really important to have a certain amount of calcium in my diet every single day.

So, I started making smoothies. I added more greens that have calcium did more weightlifting.

I really tried to modify my diet and my activities to things I felt were best going to improve my bone health.

I was super excited to get my next DXA scan. Because I just knew I was going to be better than I was before. And I did have a pretty significant, you know, improvement for myself.

After this happened to me, I made it a point to start talking with all my girlfriends. I was absolutely shocked at how many women I talked to, who had never even thought about it, didn’t think it was that big of a deal, or felt like ‘No, this doesn’t affect me.’

And because of what happened to me, a lot of them did go to their doctor and did get a DXA scan. And they did find out that their bones really weren’t as good as they were. And they have gone on to make changes in their life.

You know, your bones are kind of the core of your body.

I don’t think people realize how important it is.

    Because you don’t see it.

You don’t feel it until something happens.

And when you think about how a fracture could really change your life everything you ever wanted to do could be taken away from you. if you were diagnosed with osteoporosis I think it is critical that you take it seriously and do whatever you can.

I knew about osteoporosis being in my family, but honestly, I kind of thought it was an old lady disease and I don’t see myself as an old lady.

    My name’s Michelle. I’m 57 years old.

I was diagnosed with osteoporosis in 2020.

When I was diagnosed. It’s kind of an interesting story.

I was on a vacation with my girlfriends.

We were on a trip in Aruba and we were doing a little photo shoot. I just happened to bump my toe.

It was a simple tap and it broke my toe, and then I went on after that and I was at a concert with some friends.

I wanted to go up and get some drinks for everybody, so I'm walking through the grass, didn’t realize there was an object in my way, and I fell in the grass onto my hands, went to the doctor’s very next day and learned that I broke my arm.

And I honestly looked at the doctor and said, no, I did not. How could I have broken my arm that way?

That’s when we started to have that truthful conversation about my family history.

My name is Helen and I'm 80 years old, and this is my daughter Michelle.

I was diagnosed with osteoporosis in 2019.

My mother had osteoporosis and two of my sisters had osteoporosis.

When I saw my mom with it, she was very bent over. She had a lot of pain from it. I found out that my sister had it when she fell and broke a hip.

My aunt lost inches, they were my idols because they were 5’9’’ and 5’10”, and all I wanted to be was tall, but they shrunk down to 5’5”, 5’6’’, 5’3”. They lost inches.

Once I realized that I had osteoporosis, I wondered what I might have to do within my lifestyle to make adjustments so that I don’t put myself at risk any further.

And honestly, I didn’t want to make any adjustments, and I wanted to come up with a medication that was going to help build my bones, not just stop the progression of whatever was going on with the osteoporosis, but something that was going to help build it and maybe improve it.

When I went and did my research and thought EVENITY was the right option for me, I went back to my doctor, and she agreed.

Treatment wasn’t that invasive into my lifestyle. But what I like about EVENITY is, is that it actually can help build your bones, reduce the risk of fractures.

We laid out the plan: we're going to take it once a month for 12 months. Then we would go back and evaluate and see the progression in how my bone scans were.

We added calcium into my diet.

We also reviewed healthy eating lifestyle, also exercise, very important.

I wanted to make sure that I was exercising. That also helps to improve your strength.

So, when I went back after the 12 months, I was so excited to find out that yes, my bone density has gotten better, and I was now looking to see how can I maintain, and keep my bone strength and my bones healthy?

I’m doing everything I can to fight this. Knowledge is power, and that’s why I’m sharing my story with you.
